Moselle River Tour

2018 – Twists and turns, fine wines and castles

Spend your bicycle vacation in the most famous wine growing region of Germany along one of the most beautiful rivers. Admire the “Kaiserthermen” (Emperor‘s hot springs) and the Porta Nigra – wonderfully preserved historical buildings in the Roman city of Trier, famous towns like Bernkastel Kues, Traben Tarbach, Cochem, Neumagen Dhron (the oldest German wine town) and Enkirch, a jewel of the regional medieval “Fachwerk” (Tudor style) architecture. We’ll visit Castle Eltz and enjoy romantic stretches of river on your ride. In the evening we’ll you’ll find regional delicacies one  restaurants.
And don‘t fail to taste the art of the local winegrowers!

Itinerary (Note that this  be will updated soon)

Day 1 (Sunday) – Arrival in Trier

Try to arrive early and visit of the historical center, the Kaiserthermen (imperial thermal baths) and the Porta Nigra (Black Gate), the largest Roman era gate north of the alps.

Day 2 (Monday) – Trier to Trittenheim 42 km (26 miles)

We’ll cycle on the Moselle Cycle Path to Trittenheim, where we can explore a wine nature trail that provides us with general information about wine and the Riesling grapes that grow in the region. We’ll also do a wine a tasting , cellar visitation and enjoy a vintager snack.

Day 3 (Tuesday) – Trittenheim to Zeltingen 35 km (22 miles)

This morning we’ll ride to Neumagen-Dhrhn, the oldest vine village in Germany. Our suggested lunch stop is on the market place of Bernkastel-Kues. After visiting Bernkastek-Kues, we’ll complete our ride, ending in Zeltingen.

Day 4 (Wednesday) – Zeltingen to Zell 36 km (22 miles)

Today we’ll cycle through the vineyards of Kröver Nacktarsch to Traben-Trarbach.. After a break in Enkirch, the role model of framework architecture, you finish the day in Zell. We’ll try to include short river cruise too.

 Day 5 -(Thursday) -Zell to Treis to Karden 47 km (29 miles)

The route today is via Beilstein with a possible side trip to the castle Burg Metternich, the walled city of Rothenburg at the Moselle, to Cochem, with its picturesque city canter and the old Reichsburg castle (11th century).

Day 6 (Friday) – Treis Karden to Koblenz 42 km (27 miles)

On out final ride, we’ll can hike up to the the magnificent medieval Castle Eltz. Then, we’ll cycle the last few miles through the Moselle Valley to Koblenz.

Day 7 (SaturCochemday) – Koblenz Departure

Tour end after breakfast our tour. Spend the day or head out to your next destination

Getting to and from the tour.

The trip starts in Trier, Germany and ends in Koblenz.

The most convenient airports are Frankfort and Luxembourg City, Luxembourg (LUX). There are trains and buses from both airport cities.
